What do I do when it’s raining on game day?

Be sure the game is still on before leaving your house. How? Check your own email and phone messaging system for a call from your assignor.

Savage Park, Guilford Park, East Columbia Library: 410-313-4456

If none of this gets you an answer, wait 20 minutes and try again.

Call the assignor only after you have checked everything else at least twice.

Remember there may be as many as 300 referees assigned on a rainy morning! The assignors cannot be expected to call you individually.

If the league website or phone line says the game is on, and when you get to the field, the game is canceled, send an email to the assignor as soon as you get home. Don’t call the assignor! One assignor cannot handle calls from 300 referees as well as calls from clients wanting to reschedule!

What do I report at the end of a game?
It depends on the league:

FOR MSI:
Completely fill out the game cards from the teams, including sportsmanship points, and return to the TSL.

FOR SCHOLASTIC GAMES:
Verify the score and cards in the scorebook and sign the scorebook (if there is one).

FOR ALL GAMES:

Be sure to fill out the game report on the MWSRA Game Assignment System

RED CARDS:
Call in to MSI the same day. The number is on the game card.
Call the assignor as soon as you get home
Within 24 hours, send a short email to the assignor explaining:
Who, what, when, where – just the facts!

FIGHTS:
Call assignor immediately
Within 24 hours, send a short email to the assignor explaining:
Who, what, when, where – just the facts!

For USSF games (MSI and youth tournaments): use the USSF Referee Report and Supplement for any serious or unusual situation.

A blank document can be found on the US Soccer website, www.ussoccer.com. Go to “Laws of the Game” and under Additional Resources, click on Referee Game Report.

Send copy to the assignor. Copies then go to the league and to the State Association.

PHYSICAL ASSAULT ON YOU:
Call the police if you feel unsafe and then contact your assignor

Email to MWSRA President as soon as possible

Be aware of the options in the USSF publication on Assault

Remember for USSF games, a report must go the SRA, Greg Watson, within 48 hours.

What should I consider when I get assigned games?

When you get assigned a game, please consider anything that might make it unfair for one of the teams.
Here are the “ethics” when being assigned a game:
• Do not accept an assignment for a game in which a relative of yours is a participant.
• Do not accept an assignment for a game in the same conference in which a relative of yours plays.
• Do not accept refereeing assignments for a game in the conference in which your team plays.
• Use common sense to avoid any conflicts of interest.
• When in doubt, ask the assignor or tell the assignor to put you somewhere else.

What do I have to do to keep my referee license?

You must re-certify annually to maintain your referee license/certification. That will involve attending a clinic/class and passing the recertification exam each year. Review the requirements and more information here: http://www.mwsra.org/?page_id=67

MWSRA will have a meeting at which the additional training and the refresher test will be given.
