LIFE MEMBERSHIP PRESENTATION COMMENTS OF JIM McGOLDRICK

MWSRA Banquet, June 20, 2003

It is a great honor and privilege to be offered the opportunity to address such a prestigious group of people.  When Bryan asked me to present this award to Dirk, I was proud and excited to be able to do so.

This is where I came into the picture.  I did not want to embarrass Dirk or the MWSRA by not being prepared to make a good presentation so I met Dirk last Wednesday and he bribed me with a breakfast treat at the Silver Diner.  I had asked Dirk to bring me some written documents that I might look over to show what he has done to warrant such an award.  He did, here it is. ------------ I have taken much time to review his documents and have reduced it to the normal size of one of my assessments. ---------

Dirk started officiating in 1968 and continued until 2002.

He was President of MWSRA for 2 years and served on the Board for 15.

He joined NISOA in 1974 and is a Life member of NISOA.

Dirk was one of the first National Referees in NISOA.

He was President of MWISOA for 7 years and an Examiner for 10.

At a George Mason game when there was a shot on goal and before entering the goal, the horn blew ending the game, Larry Mittleman raised his flag signaling NO GOAL, and Gordon Bradley had a fit.  Dirk very calmly said to Gordon, “If I had the clock, you had a goal.”  Now it is our turn Dirk, the Referees have the clock and you have the GOAL.  It is my honor and privilege to award you a well deserved Life Membership with MWSRA.

Congratulations.
