2019/2020 Changes to Laws of the Game & US Soccer

As you may be aware, IFAB has approved and published new Laws of the Game for 2019/2020, which includes many Law Changes. They are now being used at some of the international competitions that are currently ongoing or coming up (i.e. Women’s World Cup) and will be published on http://marylandreferees.comon 6/15.

With few exceptions, the new Laws of the Game are NOT to be used in games you do until the fall season. DO NOT start using them for your recreational games (MSI, CYO, SAM), EDP, NCSL, CCL, Maryland Majors, WPSL, tournaments, etc until the fall season. If you have questions about when the new laws are being implemented, please contact your assignor for the game.

MWSRA strongly recommends referees both read the 2019/2020 Laws of the Game and attend a monthly clinic or recertification clinic BEFORE you start refereeing games with the new laws. They have fundamentally changed a number of things.

The new Laws of the Game can be found at https://theifab.com. In addition, IFAB has published a very good app for both Apple and Android systems. You can find the app at the Apple Store and Google Play Store. Search for “IFAB Laws of the Game”.
