Observer Program

Statement

MWSRA is looking for observers to help provide the organization and referees constructive feedback so we can better serve the soccer community.

Intention

The MWSRA Referee Observer Program is intended to be a constructive and helpful tool for both MWSRA and referee to help maintain our professional excellence that we and our clients expect. Referees will be provided neutral insight regarding their performance, and offered recommendations for improvement.

Execution

Observers will be trained to evaluate key areas of being a referee – which include but are not limited to:

1. Appearance, Mechanics, and Signals

2. Game Presence

3. Fitness and Positioning

4. Rules and Regulations

5. Game Control

6. Game Critical Decisions

7. Injury Management

Observers will receive assignments from the Observation Program Director and provide feedback via an online form. Referees may or may not know they are being observed. Most observations will be anonymous. If executed properly this will allow MWSRA to better serve our clients and referees.

One key component starting this Spring will be the ability for observation online – NFHS is recording all games this season and making them available. You can observe and stay connected to the referee community from your home (or office on a break).

Qualifications

If you are interested in being an observer you are qualified.

Skills required

  • Record information
  • Provide Feedback
  • Enjoy Soccer
  • Communicate effectively

Payment for observations occurs at the end of the season.  The fee schedule is still under development.

Summary

Being an observer is a great way to be involved and continue to share knowledge with every generation of referee. MWSRA continues to evolve and look for new ways to provide improvement for our clients and our referees, the Observer program is an important component of this plan.
